Student Leadership
Student Leadership at SACSS
Rooted in the Canossian spirit of humility and service, we nurture student leaders who lead with the heart and serve with purpose.
At SACSS, leadership is not a position, but a calling. We form our students to be servant leaders — women of strength, compassion, and integrity, who are committed to serving others and making a positive difference in the world.
Guided by our school vision, our student leaders embody:
-
Compassion (caring deeply for others, especially those in need)
-
Commitment (persevering with courage and responsibility)
-
Competence (striving for excellence in all that they do)
-
Cheerfulness (remaining hopeful and positive, even in adversity)
We believe that true leadership is not about authority, but about placing others before self and making a meaningful impact through service.
Leading Through Strengths, Serving with Purpose
At SACSS, we believe that every student possesses unique strengths, abilities, and talents. Each girl brings her own leadership style and potential, and we are committed to helping her discover and harness these strengths.
Through the use of VIA Character Strengths, students gain deeper self-awareness of their personal qualities. They learn to:
-
Identify their top strengths through a customised report
-
Apply these strengths to lead and serve others
-
Build confidence in their own leadership identity
By recognising and leveraging their strengths, our students are empowered to make a positive impact within their spheres of influence and contribute meaningfully to the community.
A Progressive Leadership Journey
Our leadership development programme adopts a progressive approach, with each level focusing on a different aspect of leadership growth.
Secondary 1: Personal Leadership
Students begin by learning to lead themselves. Through Form Teacher lessons on executive functioning, they develop discipline, responsibility, and self-management skills that lay the foundation for effective leadership.
Secondary 2: Peer Leadership
The Leaders-in-Training (L-i-T) and Peer Support Leaders-in-Training (PSL-i-T) programmes are key platforms for selected Secondary 2 students to begin their leadership journey.
In this programme, students:
-
Are mentored by senior student leaders
-
Gain hands-on experience in organising school-wide projects
-
Participate in reflection and feedback sessions to support growth
The programme emphasises:
-
Self-awareness — understanding strengths and areas for growth
-
Positivity — maintaining an optimistic outlook
-
Growth mindset — embracing challenges as opportunities
-
Role-modelling — setting a positive example for peers
Students also experience a strong sense of community, forming meaningful connections with peers, seniors and teachers. Through opportunities for co-agency, they are empowered to take initiative, co-create solutions, and build confidence as emerging leaders.
Secondary 3: Team Leadership
As students grow in their leadership journey, they may take on formal leadership roles based on their readiness and commitment to the school’s values.
These roles include:
-
Student Councillors
-
Peer Support Leaders
-
CCA Leaders
-
Catholic Activities Council Leaders
In these positions, students learn to lead teams, manage responsibilities, and contribute meaningfully to the school community.
Secondary 4: Thought Leadership
As senior leaders, Secondary 4 students take on the role of mentors to their juniors. They guide Secondary 3 leaders, share their experiences, and model values-driven leadership.
At this stage, students develop thought leadership — influencing others through their ideas, perspectives, and example, while leaving a lasting legacy in the school.
