Student Well-Being & Support is a collaborative effort between the Year Head Team, the Educational Support Committee, and the Pupil Welfare and Counselling team.

The Year Head Team

The Year Head Team is pivotal in coordinating school programs for holistic student development, working closely with Form Teachers to facilitate robust socio-emotional support and personalized guidance at each academic level. Together with the Student Development Team, they also facilitate coordination across teaching levels, ensuring a coherent educational experience.

The Educational Support Committee

The Educational Support Committee works to support students with diverse learning needs and to strengthen an inclusive school culture, adopting a whole-school, tiered approach. Our work is guided by the Canossian spirit of forming hearts and nurturing each student’s dignity and potential.

The committee comprises key personnel, dedicated teachers and Special Educational Needs Officers (SENOs) and supports holistic development of students by:

  • Empowering students with essential learning skills, mindsets, and self-regulation strategies.

  • Providing timely and appropriate support for students with special educational needs (SEN).

  • Fostering a caring and inclusive school environment where every student feels valued and supported.

Our Special Educational Needs Officers (SENOs)

Our SENOs are specialised personnel who coordinate support for students with SEN. They partner teachers and school leaders in understanding students’ learning profiles and implementing appropriate strategies in the classroom and beyond.

The role of the SENOs includes:

  • Providing intervention support for students requiring additional assistance.

  • Offering systems consultation in educational development to support inclusive practices.

  • Working with stakeholders, such as parents and external agencies, to ensure continued and coordinated support.

Pupil Welfare and Counselling Team

The Pupil Welfare and Counselling team is situated at the St Raphael Wellness Centre (SRWC), and brings together School Counsellors to support our students in finding successful strategies to manage and overcome issues that may crop up in the lives of teenagers. We are also supported by our Student Welfare Officer and Education and Career Guidance Counsellor who work closely with the School Counsellors in supporting the welfare of our students. 

While teachers and parents can refer students, students are also free to walk in and speak with any of the School Counsellors for urgent matters, or to fill in a self-referral form to seek an appointment.

Mental Health

Being a teenager is an amazing experience, but it can also be a little overwhelming at times for some. Here at SACSS, no matter what you are going through, we are here to help.

At the St Raphael Wellness Centre (SRWC), the SACSS Wellbeing Team brings together a group of three full time counsellors and a teacher counsellor to support our students in finding successful strategies to manage and overcome issues that may crop up in the lives of teenagers. 

We are also supported by our Student Welfare Officer and Education and Career Guidance Counsellor who work closely with the School Counsellors in supporting the welfare of our students. 

Besides referral by teachers or parents, students are free to walk in and speak with any of the school counsellors for urgent matters or, alternatively, to fill in a self-referral form to seek an appointment.

The St. Raphael Wellness Centre (SRWC) is committed to providing a safe and supportive space for students receiving counselling. Our team continues to develop and enhance resources that empower students to self-regulate, especially when they need time and space to calm themselves.

Good mental health is not just about talking to a counsellor or therapist. Our Form Teachers regularly conduct one-on-one wellbeing conversations with our students. During these sessions, girls are empowered to identify their values, and to learn how to effectively balance all aspects of their spirituality, health, learning and relationships. Eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and exercising are also important habits that will help improve one’s mental health.

Education Support Committee

The Education Support Committee collaborates with the school to empower all students with essential mindsets and executive functioning skills for effective learning and personal development, such as how to set realistic and achievable goals, take steps to work towards them, and overcome challenges along the way. This includes providing holistic and comprehensive support to students with unique learning needs by working together with subject teachers, specialised personnel, parents, and external stakeholders so that they can achieve their fullest potential. Alongside these initiatives, the team also looks into the holistic development of students with Special Education Needs (SEN). The team taps on the affordances of technology, puts in place programmes and works together with external agencies, staff and students to strengthen an inclusive school culture where every student can thrive and succeed.
