Student Leadership at SACSS
Rooted in the Canossian spirit of humility and service, we nurture students who embody Compassion, Commitment, Competence, and Cheerfulness in the way they live, serve, and influence others. Grounded in the philosophy of servant leadership, we believe leadership is about placing the needs of others before self and using one’s gifts to uplift the community.
Our student leadership programme is also anchored in Kouzes and Posner’s Leadership Challenge Model Framework, equipping students with the Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership and providing them a strong foundation to grow into confident, values-driven, and effective leaders.
Together, these shape the identity of a Canossian Leader — one who leads with the heart, serves with purpose, and inspires others through both values and action.
To bring this vision to life, we nurture student voice and agency, empowering students to step forward with ideas, initiate meaningful projects, and make a positive impact in the school community. Through authentic opportunities to lead and serve, students develop responsibility, ownership, and the confidence to influence positive change.
As students progress through these experiences, leadership development is strengthened through a growth mindset. They are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, embrace challenges, persevere through setbacks, and see mistakes as valuable opportunities for learning and improvement.
We also place strong emphasis on reflection and self-awareness, helping students understand their strengths, values, and areas for growth so that they can lead authentically, purposefully and with integrity. Through regular reflection, students learn to continually improve themselves while remaining grounded in their values.
Leadership at SACSS is also nurtured through a strong culture of peer support and mentorship, where senior student leaders journey alongside and guide their junior leaders. Through these meaningful relationships, students learn from one another, encourage one another, and grow together as a caring community of leaders.
