Unveil the result of the Bid
Singapore will host the inaugural Summer Youth Olympics Games from 14 to 26 August 2010.
The result was released on 21 February 2008 by IOC President, Jacques Rogge at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. A total of 9 cities took part in the candidature process that started in August 2007. They were Athens (GRE), Bangkok (THA), Debrecen (HUN), Guatemala City (GUA), Kuala Lumpur (MAS), Moscow (RUS), Poznan (POL), Turin (ITA) and Singapore (SIN). The final showdown was between Singapore and Moscow. It was a nation’s pride that Singapore beat Moscow in the final by 53 votes to 44.
There was a live telecast of the announcement of the result at the Padang where many enthusiastic Singaporeans, Politicians, Teachers, Students and members of the Public awaited with anxiety and tension. SACSS, in support of YOG, sent a small group of staff and students, wearing the “SACSS Support Singapore in YOG 2010” T-shirts to cheer with the crowd as the results unveiled. When the result was unleashed, many cried and shouted with joy. Relive the announcement at http://www.olympic.org/uk/games/yog/singapour/full_story_uk.asp?id=2491

Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2010
The Youth Olympic Games are a sporting event for young people, balancing sport, education and culture. These Games work as a catalyst in these fields throughout the Olympic Movement.
The YOG aims to bring together 3,600 top athletes, who are between 14 and 18 years old, from around the world to participate in high-level competitions and, alongside the sports element of the event, educational programmes on the Olympic values, the benefits of sport for a healthy lifestyle, the social values sport can deliver, and the dangers of doping and training to excess and/or inactivity. The sports programme will encompass all 26 sports on the programme of the 2012 Summer Games, with a limited number of disciplines and events. See http://www.singapore2010.sg/sports/26sports/ for more information about the 26 sports.

Olympism and Values
The YOG is an event balancing sport, culture and education. Its mission is to educate and engage young athletes, inspiring them to play an active role in their communities, and thus aims for the athletes to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.
To understand the Olympic Values and how these Values apply to their lives, the athletes would:
- Learn about Olympism, global and sport issues;
- Contribute by looking beyond self to make a positive impact on others and the environment around them;
- Interact with other participants to facilitate learning of new cultures;
- Celebrate the diversity of world cultures, while experiencing the power of the Olympic spirit to unite diverse cultures and peoples.
